Exodus 13

Exodus 13 has the children of Israel finally out of Egypt. The first message from Moses was a decree telling the people to commemorate this event every year. They were to eat unleavened bread to remember that they did not have to time to wait on the bread to rise. This was a practical matter, but in that day baking bread was a long and drawn out process. If the children of Israel would have had to wait on all those who were baking bread to finish then they would not have been able to leave Egypt before Pharaoh would have changed his mind again. In the New Testament leaven is used symbolically to represent evil. Jesus also tells the people not to take the leaven of the Pharisees which would mean that their teachings were holding them back.

The end of the chapter has God leading the children of Israel by a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. Knowing that you are being led by God is a great help.

“Lord, thank You for directing our paths out of bondage and into freedom in Christ. I pray this in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.”
