Exodus 3

Exodus 3 records Moses and the Burning bush. It started out as a regular day for Moses just the routine of tending his father-in-law’s flock, but then Moses saw something that was not natural. It was a bush that was on fire but not being consumed. Moses went to investigate when out of the bush God spoke to him. Moses was informed that he was on holy ground and to take off his shoes. Then God informed Moses of His plans for him. God wanted Moses to go tell Pharaoh, “let my people go.” First, Moses was to go speak with the Israelites and tell them what God had revealed to him. Moses had some questions for the Lord. Moses first asked, “Who am I that I should go?” God reassures Moses that He will be with him. The other piercing question, “Who shall I say sent me?” To this God answers tell them that “Yahweh” or “Jehovah” sent you. The translation of this name is “I am Who I am.” This name is a bit strange to us, but it wouldn’t have been to the Israelites. It would connote power and pre-existence. Most of all it meant the power to create, or to make things happen. When we pray to God we are praying to a God that makes things happen.

I learn much from this passage. First, always be on the look out for the hand of God. A lot of times God breaks in on the routine of our lives to give us His message and plans. Next, when we pray and serve God remember He is “Yahweh” or “the God who makes things happen.” We serve the all-powerful, all-knowing and omni-present God.

“O Lord Jehovah I pray for everyone who reads this that You will make things happen their life. Help us to look to You for all things. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.”
