Exodus 10

Exodus 10 has two plagues, the plague of locusts and the plague of darkness. Locusts are certainly horrible in that they consume anything green. After Moses warned Pharaoh about the upcoming plague even his advisors tried to get him to let the people of Israel go. Their question to him, “Do you not realize that Egypt is ruined?” I find this incredible that the greatest world power of its day was brought down because of a stubborn leader who dared to defy God. Makes us pause about the status of our own country.

The other plague was that of darkness. For three days it was dark where the Egyptians lived, but not where Israel lived. Darkness in of itself is eerie and can be frightening. For Egypt it had significant meaning in that one their highest gods at that time was Amuna-Ra, the sun god. They would have interpreted the darkness that the God of Israel had over thrown the god they held to be most powerful.

“Lord, let us be mindful that there are no other gods except You. You alone are powerful and just and worthy to be praised. I pray this in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.”
