Exodus 8

Exodus 8 records the plagues of the frogs, gnats and the flies. Through the plagues God is showing that He alone is God. Frogs were summoned out of the Nile. Frogs were everywhere including the ovens and the bedrooms. A bit of a funny note in this account was that Pharaoh’s magicians duplicated this plague which actually made things worse. In real life anytime we try to play God it always makes things worse. Problem is the magicians couldn’t get rid of the frogs. Pharaoh summoned Moses and asked him to pray to have the frogs removed. This is the same Pharaoh who didn’t want to listen to anything God had to say. Moses gives Pharaoh the honor of naming the time of when the frogs were to be gone. Again, this is to show the power of God. Problem is after the frogs were gone Pharaoh hardened his heart again. Then God sent a plague of gnats. This time the magicians couldn’t duplicated the plague and warned Pharaoh that this was the finger of God. Then the plague of flies occurred. This time it was confined to the Egyptians and the children of Israel did not have to suffer this plague. Again Pharaoh agrees to let the children of Israel go and offer sacrifices, but then hardens his heart again.

I do wonder how many of us when we go through trials and tribulations act like Pharaoh. In the midst of the trial we call upon the Lord for help with every intention of serving Him and then when the crisis is over we forget about our commitments to the Lord.

“Lord, forgive us for not living up to our commitments. I pray this in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.”
